Meet the team
The Allagash Wilderness Waterway is an excellent place for a seasoned wilderness canoeist to introduce a novice to the sport. Dean Cerrati (left), who was both new to the sport of wilderness canoeing and had never camped prior to the trip, did a great job in the bow of my 17-foot Mad River Revelation and adapted well to life in the Maine woods. I had the opportunity to provide Dean with some limited training before the trip and he was able to build upon those basics and assist me in manuevering the canoe across big windy lakes, through Chase Rapids (Class II), and down the Class I and fast water sections of the lower river. He even had the chance to learn a bit about portaging, as you'll see later.
