Reaching the Beaver River was a huge relief. A big river at last! We were, of course, still traveling upstream but larger brook trout and the ability to actually paddle up portions of the river improved our moral considerably. With few exceptions, the days of dragging our canoes over rocks were over. We followed the river to its extreme headwaters then portaged 3 difficult kilometers to Hope Lake.
