Helen Falls wasn't the big single drop we had anticipated, but its character was equally impressive to the senses. The rapid is a series of ramp-like waterfalls that form an extremely fast and powerful rapid, complete with sizeable drops, big holes and a runout wave train to be reckoned with. The portage, on river right, was one of just three in 300 miles of George River paddling. Never had we traveled so far on a wilderness river with so few portages, and the Helen Falls portage was on a wide, well-marked trail to boot!
