Fishing Equipment

Quality compact fishing outfits
Although choosing fishing equipment for long-distance canoeing expeditions is largely a question of personal taste, I'll give you a few pointers regarding what has worked best for me in wilderness settings. My hands-down favorite set-up is a medium action spinning outfit. The rod should collapse into at least three (preferably four) sections and should not exceed 6 feet in length. The monfilament line should be between 6 and 8lb test. I typically take a back-up spinning reel and rod because fish are an important part of an expeditioners diet and you simple can take the chance of having gear problems.
As for lures, my favorite are silver and gold Blue Fox spinners in weights ranging between 1/8 oz. to 1/2 oz. I typically brings an assortment of at least 50 lures ranging from spinners to top water plugs, as well as hooks, bobbers, dryflies, and any other lures I think may help me put trout on the campfire. Be sure to bring extra line, its light and in the event that you should lose your outfit on a rapid you can still fish with a handline. You should also bring a quality folding filet knife and a small sharpening stone.
The following outdoor gear companies have collapsable spinning rods and medium action spinning reels, as well as a wide assortment of lures.
