In 1992, our team paddled the entire Little Whale River from its headwaters to its mouth on Hudson Bay. The 200-mile journey began as our floatplane touched down near a small unnamed island on Petit lac des Loups Marins (Little Seal Lake). We paddled south to Lac D'Iberville and then reached the head of the Little Whale River. We descended the river to its mouth on the eastern shore of Hudson Bay. We were then transported by Cree-owned freighter canoes south along the rugged coastline to the Cree and Inuit village of Whapmagoostui (Great Whale).

I will always remember this trip fondly. Not only was it my first trip to the region as wilderness canoeist, it was also my first true wilderness experience.
