In 1996, our team descended the entire length of the Nastapoka River from its headwaters in Petit lac des Loups Marins (Little Seal Lake) to its mouth on the eastern shore of Hudson Bay. The 230-mile journey began as the floatplane touched down at the northern end of Little Seal Lake, from which we paddled north then northwest through Seal Lake to the head of the Nastpoka River. We saw over 100 caribou during our journey and took in some spectacular scenery. Two, back-to-back 80-foot water falls tumble through the rocky landscape as the river nears its mouth, at which point it drops another 80 vertical feet into Hudson Bay.
